Although not officially recognized, Wintergreen is a useful external remedy for the pain of rheumatoid arthritis. In the past, it has also been used for muscle, joint, or nerve pain, stomach or back pain, various kinds of inflammation, and painful menstruation. In folk medicine, it is used as an antiseptic and taken for asthma. Wintergreen, a bushy little plant roughly 6 inches in height, is native to North America.
