Tansy's leaves and flowers are sometimes taken as a remedy for indigestion, rheumatism, intestinal worms, migraine, nerve pain, and loss of appetite, but their effectiveness has never been proven. Tansy oil has been used for indigestion, symptoms of menopause, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and intestinal worms, but again without demonstrable value. In homeopathy, the oil is used for headache and infectious diarrhea. Greek mythology credits it with conferring immortality on Ganymede, the cupbearer of the gods. In fact, the herb's name stems from "athanaton," the Greek word for immortal. Tansy also has a long-standing association with the Easter holiday; cakes made with Tansy leaves were traditionally eaten at the end of Lent.
